“I Saw An Older Man Harassing A Teen Girl On The Plane. Here’s What I Did”

Recently, Canadian journalist Joanna Chiu told her 45K Twitter followers about the time she witnessed a man making sexual advances towards a teen girl on a plane. Chiu was on a flight from Toronto to Vancouver when she heard a passenger behind her complaining about having to sit in the middle seat. However, the complaints stopped when a teenage girl traveling separately from her family sat next to him.

“I thought it was strange that suddenly he seemed very happy to be where he was in the middle seat, and it seemed like it was because a teenage girl had come up and sat beside him in a window seat,” Chiu told CBC. “He kept asking about her school, what she was studying, what she wanted to be when she was older. It definitely raised some flags, so I started listening pretty carefully.”

It soon got to a point where the creep was asking her out and even though the girl was ignoring him, it was pretty obvious that he was determined to keep going. Luckily, with the help of other passengers and crew members, Chiu stopped the predator. Continue scrolling to read how everything unfolded in the journalist’s own words.

Dad Punishes Teen Daughter By Taking Over Her Social Media For 2 Weeks

When Tawnya Ford and Larry Sumpter found out that their 15-year-old daughter, Madelynn, had helped sneak boys into a sleepover party, they came up with two forms of punishment. And they let Maddie choose. Either a month without a phone or two weeks without a phone but the parents get complete control of her social media.

Madelynn immediately chose the second option.

However, it wasn’t long before the high school sophomore from Denton, Texas, began to regret her decision. As soon as the takeover took off on November 11, her dad got really creative on her TikTok and Instagram accounts.

For example, Larry danced around with his son-in-law in a pair of daisy dukes and a crop top in one video. And gazed at the camera while laying in bed in a candid closeup picture. Eventually, even Madelynn’s classmates began regularly checking his updates.

“After the first day, Madelynn was like, ‘I changed my mind, I choose the one month,'” Ford told TODAY. “Larry told her, ‘No. I’m too invested. I have too many ideas. We’re sticking with the two weeks.’ He’s loving it. I think he’s gonna make his own TikTok account when this over.”

“We’re always down to embarrass our kids!” the mom laughed.

Cat Comes Home After Being Lost For 536 Days, Leaps Into His Owner’s Arms Instantly

We love cats not only because they’re cute and awesome and perfect, but also because they’re independent little explorers who love going on adventures of their own. However, it sometimes poses problems for their owners who are worried sick at home not knowing when their furry friend is coming back home. This is why animal activists have long been encouraging people to microchip their pets – this way, there’s a far greater chance to reunite with your beloved friend if it goes missing.

Recently, a story about a cute orange boy named Cat went viral, for the adorable feline went missing and didn’t come home for 536 days straight. His owners – Mindy and Luke Criner – were just beginning to lose hope when Cat finally reappeared in their lives, purring and meowing for their attention.

This cat named Cat was missing for 536 days

The feline was adopted from the Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter in Virginia and was very shy at first. He wasn’t very keen on playing with other kittens, so his would-be owners decided that he needs a loving home to bring out his confidence. “You could see in his eyes he just needed love,” Mindy, one of Cat’s owners, told the media. As it turned out, it was really the love that Cat needed – soon he gained enough confidence to roam around his yard, exploring the new territory. Sadly, one time, Cat didn’t return from his adventures.

The Criner family immediately spread the word about their missing furry friend on Lost & Found Pets – Hampton Roads, VA, Facebook page. They also put Cat’s litter box and food outside, hoping that the smell would bring him home, however, to no avail. The posters and little housing stations all over the neighborhood that the Criners had their friends checking all the time didn’t help either. The family was starting to lose hope.

When one day they got a voicemail from animal control

Every night, Mindy and Luke would walk around their neighborhood in hopes of finding Cat but were unsuccessful. “Weeks turned to a year, then a little more and every day, that crack in my broken heart got a little bigger,” Mindy shared with the media. Then, to everyone’s surprise, someone found Cat.

Turns out, a man was taking care of Cat for a whole year

“I thought it had to be a mistake. The voicemail from animal control said to get in touch with Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter to find him. I drove to that shelter as fast as the law allowed and walked through the door already fighting back tears,” Mindy revealed. When she arrived at the shelter, she was told that a man had actually been feeding Cat for about a year, as he thought that the orange feline was stray. After Cat was hit by a car and, luckily, survived, the man got in touch with animal control who scanned for a microchip and discovered who Cat really was. Mindy quickly got in contact with the aforementioned man and drove to his house. There, she found Cat sitting on the porch and having a snack. As soon as the two saw each other, it was as if no time had passed at all.

When Mindy drove to the man’s house, she was met by Cat who instantly started purring after seeing her

“I sat on the steps and let him come over to me in case he was scared, and he got right in my lap and purred,” Mindy told the media. “I started walking towards the car where my husband (who has an incredibly distinctive voice), Luke, was talking to the guy that had been feeding him and Cat purred louder than I knew possible and gave me that first super long head boop. It’s like he nudged that little piece of my broken heart back in place.” Then, she added: “I hope that our story will give others missing their pets hope, and maybe those who have unknowingly taken in someone else’s pet will check to see if they’re scanned so that pet can have their happy reunion with their family, and someone else can feel the overwhelming joy we’re experiencing.”

The initiative transforming young Londoners into budding filmmakers

There have been a number of creative initiatives aimed at tackling London’s knife crime epidemic in recent months, with some proving more successful than others (see the Home Office’s recent #knifefree chicken box gaff).

The Mayor of London has also been running a series of schemes aimed at young people affected by knife violence as part of its London Needs You campaign. In the latest of these schemes, the Mayor’s office teamed up with agencies Wavemaker UK and DCM on LDN Filmmakers, a free, fast-track film course designed to help young Londoners learn the ins and outs of filmmaking.

During the week-long course, 40 participants aged 15-22 – many of whom have been affected by serious youth violence – were taught by a number of industry experts about all aspects of film production, from scriptwriting and acting, to using camera equipment and editing.

Urban music site GRM Daily also shared behind-the-scenes updates from the project as it unfolded, showcasing all the skills they were picking up along the way. The end result is Our LDN Story, a series of short films that focus on issues including knife crime, relationships, careers and generally what it’s like growing up in London.

Trailers for the films initially premiered at a screening of Rapman’s hotly anticipated feature film, Blue Story, on 24 November, and are being screened in cinemas across the capital to promote the initiative.

Wavemaker managing partner, Gavin Laisby, says: “Complex and critical societal problems are rarely countered by an ‘off the shelf’ advertising solution. All too often, authority figures preach solutions to vulnerable and distrusting young Londoners. This project gave young people a platform to have their own experiences and showcase their unique talent.”

Tom Hanks Reading Nice Tweets Is What The World Needs Right Now

Need some stress relief even though it’s only Monday? We know just the thing to help: this video of Tom Hanks reading nice tweets. Released by Twitter Movies as promotion for Hanks’ role as legendary icon of kindness Mr. Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, the video has the star narrating moments of goodwill posted by Twitter users. And as you would expect, he has nothing but nice things to say about all of them.

It can be funny to listen to Jimmy Kimmel’s “mean tweets” series in which celebrities read insults directed at them, often humorously disarming the people who make them in the process. But there’s no twist, sarcasm or clapback here. Hanks even gets emotional himself about some of the wholesome posts, and his earnestness is sure to give you the warm fuzzies too.

Last month, an interview with the New York Times focused on Hanks’ real-life good deeds and philosophy of kindness. The article drew responses in which people shared their own stories of encounters with the actor, attesting to what a nice guy he is.

Searching his name on Twitter will bring up stories of his gratitude and respect towards the journalists and film staff he’s worked with, as well as his willingness to help out complete strangers.

Maybe Hanks’ next project should be recording an advent calendar in which every day is an audio clip of an uplifting and motivational message. Wouldn’t it be easier to get out the door in the morning with him encouraging us to look in the mirror and tell ourselves that we can achieve whatever we set out to do today?

Here’s what commenters thought about the wholesome video

We hope this video inspires you to pass along the good cheer you get from watching it! After all, if you do a good deed for someone else today, you can imagine what Tom Hanks would have to say about it.

Kengo Kuma designs his first ever trainer for Asics

Kengo Kuma unveils first ever trainer design for Asics

For his first footwear design, architect Kengo Kuma has created a trainer in collaboration with Japanese sports brand Asics that draws on the craft of bamboo knitting.

The shoe's upper consists of a slip-on mono-sock, overlaid with a criss-crossing pattern of clean, white strips.

It mimics the way that a supple material like bamboo is interlocked in the traditional technique of bamboo knitting – or yatara ami – to create a solid structure.

Made from recycled polyester, the lines are placed strategically to stabilise the foot, while also converging to form the Asics logo on the sides of the shoe.

"Originally, Japanese culture was based on 'connecting lines'," said Kuma. "A single line is weak, but bundle of lines in aggregate is strong. An approach to yatara ami combining delicacy and functionality works well with modern designs."

The shoe is named the Metaride AMU, based on Asics' classic Metaride shape which curves up towards the toes to prevent excessive bending of the ankles and reduce energy consumption.

A tan midsole breaks up the otherwise monochromatic shoe – its colour derived from the natural fibres the material is made with. These are usually dyed, but were left uncoloured at Kuma's request.

Kengo Kuma unveils first ever trainer design for Asics

"I was captivated by the fact that cellulose nanofibres are used in the midsole foam," he explained.

"This is a fibre material derived from wood. It was a great approach — this material combines the contradictory functions of superior cushioning and durability."

In this way, it imitates bamboo's ability to be both hard and soft at the same time.

For Kuma, switching from architecture to footwear design was not as big a leap as it might first appear.

"When we design a building, we work while analysing how people move and feel. It is no different from ergonomically designed shoes," he explained.

"One of the major themes in my architecture is how people and the earth connect. For me, I feel uncomfortable when people are separated from the earth by architecture, and I think people remember their peace of mind when they connect with the earth. In terms of that connection, I felt sneakers had more possibilities than architecture."

Kuma – who is well-known for designing the V&A Dundee and Japan's National Stadium for the upcoming 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games – has had a long-standing fascination with bamboo as a material.

Most recently he weaved it together with carbon fibre for an installation during the London Design Festival.
