Student Fails Math Because They Were High And/Or Drunk All The Time, But The Professor Refuses To Give Up On Them

Substance abuse is dangerous. It creeps on you slowly but can completely overwhelm your life if you let it. And this student did. Eventually, drinking and getting high started taking a toll on their personal life.

“Drugs and alcohol became an unhealthy coping mechanism,” the student who wanted to remain anonymous told Bored Panda. “I drank to become comfortably numb and deal with negative emotions. It got to a point where it was just continuous.”

Failing their math class was one of the warning signs. “I started going to AA meetings (I didn’t think I was ‘hardcore’ enough for AA since I only used marijuana, cocaine, and alcohol). I got a sponsor, and started working the steps.”

When they decided to rebuild their life, they knew honesty was the main material. The one that holds everything together. So, instead of making excuses, they told the truth, which really resonated with the professor who failed them.

“Dr. S is very warm and charming. She seems to genuinely care about her students and makes herself available outside of class to help students that are having trouble,” the student said.” She started a ‘Math Appreciation Society’ and often buys food for students with her own money. She sees it as her moral duty to help people.”

Below is their inspiring story, which shows just how far people can go when they talk to each other.

I remembered Dr. S said that if anyone failed Math 25 she would work with them for the rest of the semester. I went back to school after missing two weeks, asked if the offer still stood, and got to work immediately. I had a complete meltdown and ugly cried in front of her because I was so tired and frustrated. Turns out withdrawal is no fun and I was angry at myself because I felt years of alcohol and drug abuse had made me… dumb. I used to love math and I was good at it. Now I was struggling with things that should have been easy for me.

I felt I owed her an explanation after the ugly crying incident and wanted to give her an “out”. I knew I had earned my failing grade and didn’t deserve help.

Dr. S has been super kind and supportive. I met with her every day for the rest of the semester and did all of the exams over again. My withdrawal symptoms were relatively mild. My hands were a little shaky, I couldn’t sleep, and I couldn’t eat much of anything. Thankfully they didn’t last too long and with Dr. S’s help, I was able to get a lot done over the last month.

I took the final this morning and scored a 98. Now I’ve gone from an F to a B. This e-mail hit me in the feels and made me cry tears of joy. I got a B?!?!?! Thank you, Dr. S, for being so incredibly kind and patient with me.

People had a lot to say about the recovery

Robin Williams’ Daughter Zelda Gets Genie In ‘Which Disney Character Are You’ Instagram Filter

Few would argue if someone said we live in the age of technology. We all walk the streets being surrounded by various devices, clinging to our smartphones, on a constant search for the best app to scroll. Talking about those, there will probably be no surprise here that Instagram is one of the most popular choices. And luckily for us mere mortals, celebrities love it as much or even more then we do and keep surprising us with a variety of splendid content. Even if it’s something as simple as a short video of themselves using a popular filter. That’s exactly the case with this story. Robin Williams’ daughter Zelda tried out the viral Instagram filter “Which Disney Character Are You” and her reaction after getting Genie, the character voiced by her late father, is just too pure. Scroll down to see it for yourself!

Late actor Robin Williams’ daughter recently tried out the “Which Disney Character Are You” Instagram filter

Robin Williams’ daughter Zelda played around testing out the viral Instagram filter that randomly matches a person with the Disney character they are most similar to. To her own surprise, she got Genie from “Aladdin”, which was voiced by none other but her own late father.

And her reaction after getting Genie is just pure gold

Genie was voiced by her late father back in 1992

Just like so many others who gave into the craze about the filter, she sat down rolling her eyes at her front-facing camera while a roulette of Disney characters flashed by. When the frame on her forehead eventually went still with the smug blue face on Genie, she burst into laughter, being visibly surprised and amused. Talk about coincidences!

And is considered to be one of the favorite characters of his whole career

What are the odds of his daughter getting this character, huh?

Genie from the ’90s cartoon “Aladdin” was one of her father’s most-loved characters. Robin Williams was one of the first well-known comedians to team up with Disney and lend his voice and charming personality to an animated character.

The people of the Internet loved it

Le Petit Royal Frankfurt is a modern take on the traditional brasserie

Le Petit Royal Frankfurt restaurant

A restaurant has opened in Frankfurt that combines the classic styling of a French brasserie with contemporary artworks and rich textiles.

Le Petit Royal Frankfurt is located on the ground floor of the Ameron Frankfurt Neckarvillen Boutique hotel in Bahnhofsviertel.

Le Petit Royal Frankfurt restaurant

It is the first venue outside Berlin from the team behind the popular Grill Royal and, like its sister restaurants, its interiors are designed by company co-founder Boris Radczun.

For Radczun, it is more important to create spaces that will become timeless, rather than to follow trends. He likes to focus on tactile materials and comfortable furniture, rather than focus too much on throwaway aesthetics.

"For an all-day dining restaurant, it is most important to offer a sort of neutral, but very comfy hospitality," he told Dezeen.

"The restaurant will be open all day, for a long period and will be visited by a lot of different people, so the question is how to create a space that is interesting but not overwhelming," he continued.

"What kind of restaurant will people still enjoy in 10 years? It's also about not being too 'now'."

Artworks were chosen that fit with the pop-art style of the Grill Royal restaurants, but without drowning out the subtle but monumental architecture of the hotel buildings, constructed in Germany's Wilhelmine Period at the turn of the 20th century.

Among the standout pieces is a stained glass window by artist Paul Hance, in shades of red, orange and yellow, and a neon sign by art collective Claire Fontaine, which reads "I Am Your Voice".

"Their work 'Capitalism Kills Love' in Berlin is iconic for the Grill Royal, but for Frankfurt we went for something more subtle," said Radczun. "With all the banking skyscrapers around, you don't have to emphasise the topic."

Custom-made upholstered banquettes provide the majority of seating for the restaurant.

Radczun chose a tweed in shades of red and grey for the upholstery, to soften the brightness of bright white tablecloths. Along with the grassy textured wallpaper, they help to mute the acoustic quality of the space.

"As I like classical tablecloths in classical restaurants, a pure white, the overall haptic experience had to be toned softer," he explained. "I like to mix different colours of the same fabric, it looks more 'at home'."

Oiled-oak wall panelling and furniture adds a feel of quality that is echoed by the retro wall-lights and glass Ikora lamps.

Lighting was key in creating the right mood for the space throughout the day, according to Radczun.

"The Donghia wallpaper and the stained glass break and diffuse the light very nicely," he added. "Sometimes it looks sunny even on a clouded day."

"This quality is very important for the breakfast situation and gives a candlelit feeling to the evening service," he continued.

It seats 80 people and also has a terrace that will open in the summer.

Frankfurt has recently been experiencing a building boom, as the city bids to woo banks from London as a result of Brexit. New high-rise towers by BIG, UNStudio and Ole Scheeren are all underway.

Dezeen is currently holding a competition giveaway for a stay at the Ameron Frankfurt Neckarvillen Boutique.

‘My Dad Has Lost The Plot’: Daughter Shares Her Dad’s Written Instructions On How To Feed A ‘Random’ Fox

We all know that dads might say that they might not want to have a pet, but they quickly fall in love with them. Like one dad who freaked out when he lost his daughter’s hamster. Or all the dads who have ever said they don’t want a dog but ended up best pals with them.

In this case, we’ve got a great foxy story for you. A story about a dad and his newfound love for a wild fox. Amy MacMillan from East Kilbride, Scotland, shared that her dad has “lost the plot” because he adores his new fox friend so much that he’s feeding it extravagant meals (and expecting everyone else to do the same).

Not only that, he hung up a schedule for divine food to be left out for the fox by the family while he’s on holiday. True friendship between a man and a fox? Or a tad over the top? That’s for you to decide, dear Pandas!

The wild fox has been experiencing gastronomic delights for the past few months now. Amy’s dad feeds it two meals per day: dinner and supper.

The choices for dinner are chicken or chicken drumsticks. While for supper we have an excellent selection of dog stick chews with a handful of biscuits to accompany them. With the culinary attention this fox is getting, you’d think it was related to those food-loving, constantly-ravenous hobbits from ‘The Lord of the Rings.’

Amy even bought her dad a fox keychain in case he misses his wild fox buddy on his holiday. Naturally, he sent her a photo where he’s attached it to his backpack.

Like any other wild animals, foxes can cause some problems in civilized areas. For example, they’re known to raid trash cans, mark their territory, and dig up flower beds. And they can even gobble up smaller pets.

So if you want to keep your chrysanthemums and pet bunnies safe, the first thing you need to do is not leave food outside for foxes.

You also need to have trash cans made of tough materials that also have tightly secured lids, so that animals can’t get in. And if you absolutely have to keep small pets in your backyard, use welded mesh, not chicken wire for the enclosure.

What do you think of Amy’s dad’s friendship with the fox, dear Readers? Do you think that it’s fed well enough, or is that just the right way to treat any foxy-buddy? Do you think that Amy’s dad will keep feeding it after he comes back from holiday? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
