Artist Stuck In Quarantine Uses Her Free Time To Paint Flowers All Over Her House

Being stuck in quarantine is a great time to take up interesting DIY projects. Just yesterday we featured Imgur user cristinaf’s dollhouse door-covered electrical outlets, and today we have a beautiful project by French artist Nathalie Lété. The woman used her free time and artistic skills to turn her country house into a beautiful piece of art by hand painting flowers all over the walls.

In a recent interview with Bored Panda, Nathalie said she bought the house, located in a little village about a hour away from Paris, three years ago.

Nathalie says that for the first year, they lived in a completely white house but later she started painting all of the little details whenever she had the time. “Now, due to the confinement, I’ve had two full months to focus on painting the walls,” explained the artist.

Nathalie doesn’t plan on stopping with just the walls – she plans to paints the furniture, lamps, tiles, rugs, and cushions in the future to create a nest that’s totally filled with her art.

The artist says she takes a lot of inspiration from folk art, like the colorful houses in Zalipie, and the Maud Lewis house in England. “I also like the streets in the souk of Tangier, Morroco, which are painted by young teenagers simply to embellish the area,” said Nathalie.

“I like the idea of embellishing very simple places and things, like a room or its furniture, just by adding a bit of color and naive motives,” said the artist.

Nathalie says she does the work step by step, corner after corner, and wall after wall as this allows her to learn from her mistakes and avoid them later on the project. “Even if I did something that I no longer like, there are no plans to rush, no stress, I can cover it the next day by simply painting over,” said the artist.

The artist gave some advice to those who feel like trying a similar project themselves: “Just try to let your inner child guide you and forget perfectionism. Paint simple flowers if you don’t consider yourself very talented, the most important thing is to allow yourself to feel pleasure from doing it.”

“Personally, I like working in naïve style, but some days I simply paint a picture that I saw in some book. It’s a joyful, mixed pattern,” said the artist. “My favorite colors are green and pink, and I often use these two in my palette.”

“After I painted my staircase, I realized just how much I enjoy going up and down the house all the time. Seeing all the colorful motifs all day brings me a lot of happiness!” shared Nathalie. “Every step inside shows dreamy, candy-color flowers blooming on the doors, walls, staircases, and furniture—as though it’s a cottage from a fairytale.”
