Mom Of Black And White Twins Often Gets Asked Which One Of The Boys Is Hers

This 31-year-old Nigerian mother had no idea what she was about to witness when she went into labor last February. Now, she has no problem telling her twin sons apart. Brothers Daniel and David were born just minutes apart, yet they look nothing alike except for big brown eyes.

Their parents Stacy and Babajide, who live in Lagos, are both black, but one of the babies was born albino. As a result, the adorable twins make heads turn whenever they are in public—Daniel has dark skin and black curly hair, just like his 5-year-old big sister Demilade, and David has shocking white pale skin and golden locks.

Stacy decided to share the adventures of the unusual duo on Instagram and at just over a year old, the twins have almost 18k followers.

“We did not know about their differences while I was pregnant, the scan did not show such so it was a huge surprise and the most amazing moment when the first twin (Daniel) came out with black hair and the second twin (David) came out with gold hair. I had them through CS, so the doctors were like: “It seems you are having totally unidentical twins.” Before I knew it, nurses started coming out to look at them,” mum of three, Stacy, told Bored Panda.

David has albinism, which makes him 1 in 20,000 people worldwide born with this genetic condition

Albinism is an inherited genetic condition caused by the lack of melanin, the pigment formed in the skin, hair, and eyes. It occurs in all ethnic and racial groups and the levels of pigmentation can vary depending on its type. The chance of being born with albinism typically ranges from 1 in 3,000 to 1 in 20,000. It can include various skin and vision complications, so albinos have to be extremely cautious.

David has oculocutaneous albinism, which results in his light skin and gorgeous golden curls.

The rate of people living with albinism in Nigeria is among the highest in the world with an estimated number of over two million albinos living in the country. Yet despite the statistics, this group faces serious discrimination due to a different skin color. According to statistics, over 600,000 albino Nigerians suffer from discrimination and bullying from their families, schoolmates, and peers, which often results in their poverty and lack of education.

However, Stacy admitted that she’d never received any negative comments and both boys are loved equally and unconditionally.
