Cop Pushes Protesting Woman, Black Female Officer Confronts Him

In the midst of the protests over the killing of George Floyd in Minnesota, footage of a male cop pushing a kneeling black woman to the ground emerged. But the incident, which happened in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, didn’t stay unnoticed.

One black female officer stepped up to confront the cop over his actions. The video shows her yelling and what appears to be scolding as the male cop is running away. The brave officer is now being praised online and one protester behind the camera can be heard shouting “yes, thank you.” Let’s take a close look at the disturbing incident down below.

After the Fort Lauderdale police identified Steven Pohorence as the violent officer on video, tensions rose even further Sunday night. Local10 reports that Pohorence was suspended with pay while the investigation is taking place. He has been a member of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department since October 2016. Chief of Police Rick Maglione commented: “that officer has been removed from any contact with the public.”

The “heroic” police officer confronting Pohorence in the video was identified as Krystle Smith. Maglione said that “she did what she was supposed to do”: “When you see either adrenaline or emotion or some kind of interaction going south … that is our job to do, is intervene.” When Maglione was asked if he believes Poherence’s actions could have escalated the situation, the chief replied: “It could have added to what was already going on.”

It’s been speculated that the victim of the police’s force may have filed a lawsuit
