Reale table by Carlo Mollino for Zanotta

Reale table by Carlo Mollino and Zanotta

VDF products fair: Zanotta has released an updated model of the skeletal Reale table by Italian architect, designer and photographer Carlo Mollino.

Reale, designed by Mollino for Zanotta in 1946, is best known for its slender wooden body that is said to take its cues from the world of aeronautics.

Zanotta's updated version is larger than the original, measuring 2.7 metres in length, and features legs with a deeper incline.

Users can also choose between a frame made in natural or painted oak, teamed with either a marble or glass tabletop.

Reale forms part of Zanotta's 2020 Mollino Collection and is one of the three products being exhibited at the VDF products fair by DDC NYC – a showroom and curator of modern design based in New York.

"The Reale table is as timeless as it is mechanically complex," said DDC NYC.

"Mollino's tectonic masterstroke was inspired by concepts in aeronautics – he was an avid flyer – and mass manufacturing, especially the coming-together of discrete elements to form a perfect whole."
