Fugu furniture collection by Jasper Morrison for Maruni

Fugo chair and coffee table by Jasper Morrison for Maruni

Dezeen Showroom: British designer Jasper Morrison has created a wooden chair and coffee table duo for Maruni, which form a collection named Fugu after the Japanese word for blowfish.

The chair features a clean, minimalist design with a generous, curved seat and backrest and the option to include midcentury-style armrests.

"The goal [was] to achieve a level of comfort with a solid wood seat and back so that no upholstery is needed, maintaining the pure lines and the expression of a single material purposefully arranged," said Morrison.

A matching low table, made either from solid oak or pale ash, features a round top offset against four stubby legs.

With its inviting, expansive surfaces, the Fugu series is designed both for homes and public spaces such as receptions or waiting rooms.

It forms part of Maruni's wider 2020 collection, which also includes a dining table and chair designed by Naoto Fukasawa, with legs resembling the sinuous lines of octopus tentacles.
